Hey There!

I am an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Communication Studies Department at Northeastern University. I teach Sports, Media, and Communication, Sports Promotion, and Sport and Spectacle. I’ve also got some new courses in the works, so stay tuned!

Previously, I was a Lecturer in the departments of Journalism and Advertising at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where I taught courses in sports media and public relations.

My research and teaching interests include media content, media audiences, and media production, often within the realm of sports media. My research focuses on media psychology, entertainment theory, and sports communication regarding television, sports, new media technologies, and audience behavior and habits. I primarily use quantitative methods, including survey, experiment, and content analysis.

My research has been published in leading peer-reviewed journals, including Journal of Broadcasting & Electronic Media, Psychology of Popular Media, the Journal of Children and Media, and Journalism and Mass Communication Quarterly. I have also contributed chapters to The Oxford Handbook of Electoral Persuasion (Oxford, 2019), Video Game Influences on Aggression, Cognition, and Attention (Springer, 2018), and The International Encyclopedia of Media Psychology (Wiley, 2021).

My teaching includes both theoretically-oriented and skills-oriented courses, ranging from an overview of mass communication technologies and sports journalism to film and video production. Previously, I have taught Classics of Sports Journalism, Sports PR, Crisis Communications, Media Relations, Social Impact of Mass Media, TV Studio and Film Production, First-Year Seminar, and Introduction to Media Industries and Institutions.

I earned my Ph.D. in Communication at the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2021. And, I hold an M.A. in Media Studies from the Newhouse School at Syracuse University, another M.A. in TV, Radio, and Film from the Newhouse School, and a B.S. in Recording Industry from Middle Tennessee State University.
